Capless Proteas struggle in Perth

In Marizanne Kapp’s absence, the Protea women’s cricket team was bowled out for 76 runs in the one-off test against Australia in Perth.

Kapp, who played a cracking stroke in the recent white-ball cricket series against the Aussies, was apparently ok in the run-up to the test and captain Laura Wolvaardt confirmed during the coin toss session that she would not be playing.

Apart from Suné Luus (26 runs) and Masabata Klaas (10 runs), none of the other Protea batsmen could score more than six runs and all the batsmen were already back in the dressing room in the 32nd over.

The 20-year-old Darcie Brown was a thorn in the flesh of the South Africans and she knocked over five wickets.

In response to the visitors’ modest batting effort, the home team pretty much let the bat in hand.

Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy currently enjoy an unbeaten partnership of 145 runs for the fourth wicket and the Aussies hit their runs at almost five runs per over.
