The cricket fires of joy will continue to burn in the Eastern Cape for a long time after the Sunrisers Eastern Cape were named the SA20 winners for the second year in a row.

The Sunrisers beat Durban’s Super Giants by 89 runs in the final of the tournament at Newlands on Saturday.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” said captain Aiden Markram when he received the silverware.

“It was already a great achievement to qualify for the final, but the way we played is a testament to what we can achieve as a team.”

Markram was particularly able to rely on the fast bowling of Marco Jansen, Ottniel Baartman and Daniel Worrall to put his opponents under pressure.

These three bowlers collectively took 55 wickets in the tournament, while the left-handed Jansen was also named the rising star of the tournament.

“It’s a tough series and you have to be at your best in every single game. However, the bowlers’ light shone brightest, while the batsmen were able to pull the wagon through the drift. I am incredibly proud of this group of players.”

The Super Giants’ Heinrich Klaasen was named the player of the tournament. He smashed his 447 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 207.90.
