Dan Evans did his best to disrupt Carlos Alcaraz’s game, but the defending US Open champion is through to the next round.

The 20-year-old Spaniard won the match 6-2, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-3 to advance to the fourth round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York for the third year in a row.

“It’s always difficult to play against Dan; he is a player who likes to dictate matters from close to the net and he has a good feel for the game,” said Alcaraz after the matchup.

“On the whole, I hope that the spectators liked our game – there were good winning shots and a few highlights. I am very grateful to win this one and qualify for the fourth round.”

Alcaraz’s next opponent is Matteo Arnaldi, an unranked Italian player who settled with Cameron Norrie in clean sets.

In other matches, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev also booked their places in the next round.

Medvedev easily finished with Sebastian Baez, but Zverev initially had to fend off a fierce attack from Grigor Dimitrov.

The Bulgarian player won the first set, after which the second set was also decided by a fall ax pot. However, Zverev then found his feet to win the last two sets 6-1 and 6-1.
