It looks like Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will cross rackets in yet another final. Both players advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open in New York.
Djokovic had earlier settled with Taylor Fritz, while Alcaraz now made short work of Alexander Zverev.
The young Spaniard won his quarter-final showdown with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4 and he is still on track to successfully defend his title.
“I am very comfortable here on the courts of New York and I am definitely playing my best tennis. I feel good physically and I’m ready for the semi-final,” said Alcaraz.
The 20-year-old player will face Daniil Medvedev in one of the semi-finals, while Djokovic will face Ben Shelton.
The prospect of another Alcaraz‑Djokovic final certainly makes tennis fans sit up.
Alcaraz kept the silverware after a titanic Wimbledon final, while Djokovic reigned supreme in the Western & Southern Open.
The Serbian said after Wimbledon that he would like to play against the Spanish tennis crown prince again.
“He is going to be part of the ATP tour for a long time, while my playing time glass is running out. I would love it if we could play each other again for the US Open – the no. 1 and no. 2 player in the world who rumble each other in five sets. It’s very good for tennis.”
