The production of a television series based on Rudie van Rensburg’s best-selling book, Piranhahas been founded, is expected to start in early 2024.
This series, titled Endangeredconsists of six episodes and it mainly deals with the controversy surrounding rhino poaching.
“While researching rhino poaching, I became increasingly aware of how serious the problem is.
“It is a great honor to have such well-known filmmakers producing the series. I am delighted that this issue will be brought to the attention of a wider audience,” says Van Rensburg.
Endangered is about Montgomery Smith, a wealthy Englishman in exile who runs an illegal, corrupt and dangerous syndicate. The syndicate smuggles Africa’s white gold, namely the endangered rhinoceros horn. On their trail is the veteran detective Kassie Kasselman.
Kasselman doggedly pursues Smith from the Cape gangs to the Kruger National Park to Pretoria, South Africa’s bustling political capital. He is determined to unravel the mystery and stop Smith’s syndicate of criminal gangs and poachers.
Stuart Urban (The Mystery of Suzy Lamplugh, The Secret, May I Kill You?), a two-time British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) award-winner will direct with Jake Riddell (Reyka, Grantchester, London Kills, Death in Paradise), who also writes the screenplay, directs.
The series is produced in association with Strong Studios, Convergent Media, Forlan Films in the UK and M-Net.
