The N4 toll road at Mjejana on the way to Komatipoort was still closed late Friday afternoon due to a car accident in which a child was seriously injured.

Few details are available at this stage, but according to Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the department of community safety in Mpumalanga, an emergency helicopter was on the scene to take the child to a hospital.

“Due to the serious nature of the injuries, paramedics are currently working hard to stabilize the child before the child can be taken to the nearest hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, traffic has accumulated heavily and motorists are requested to be patient and careful.

“We encourage motorists to use alternative routes.”

Speedster arrested near Schoemanskloof

In a separate incident on the N4 near Schoemanskloof, a motorist’s heavy foot cost him dearly on Friday afternoon when he was arrested for violating the speed limit.

According to Mmusi, the man was driving a BMW X5 sports utility vehicle at 190 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

He was apparently on his way from Johannesburg in the direction of Mbombela.

“The speedster was released on bail of R3 000 at the Ngodwana police station and is expected to appear in court soon.”
