Concert for Theuns goes to Cape Town

After a tidal wave of requests to the organizers of the Theuns Jordaan tribute concert, which was presented in Pretoria earlier this year in front of a crowd of more than 20,000 spectators, there is now good news for Capetians: This concert will be presented in Cape Town early next year.

The large-scale, world-class production pays tribute to Theuns Jordaan, the iconic Afrikaans musician, with performances by Steve Hofmeyr, Juanita du Plessis, Kurt Darren, Ray Dylan, Dozi, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Ricus Nel, Jay du Plessis, Bok van Blerk, Danny Smoke, Liezel Pieters, Lianie May and Jacques du Plessis.

Sonett de Villiers, organizer of the concert, says the concert presented at Loftus Versfeld was a great celebration of Theuns’ life and music.

“The concert exceeded everyone’s expectations. It was one of the most beautiful and biggest events in Afrikaans music yet. It was definitely a one-of-a-kind musical experience and speaks volumes of Theuns’ legacy as well as of the artists, production team and creative leadership who went to work passionately.”

According to Sonett, it was an enormous project to undertake, which they did not think they would undertake again.

“However, since the Loftus concert, Capetians continue to ask for the concert to be presented in Cape Town as well. We did some research and noticed that there were few Capetians present at the Loftus concert.

“We feel obliged to offer something to Theuns’ Cape fans, because they keep asking. A lot of work, time and creativity went into the production and it produced an exceptional interpretation of Theuns’ music. We look forward to presenting it with just as much passion at the DHL Stadium.”

The Theuns Jordaan tribute concert revives Theuns’ songs in a huge production managed by seasoned producers Andries Pieterse, Deedee Oosthuizen and Floors Oosthuizen, in collaboration with Theuns’ long-time friend, Jacques du Plessis.

The concert will take place on Saturday 6 January 2024 at DHL Stadium in Greenpoint, Cape Town. The tickets for the concert are available from today. The sales are limited to 20,000 tickets.
