Couple, farm worker at Frankfort raided, robbed

An elderly Free State couple were overrun, tied up and robbed in their home on a farm between Frankfort and Heilbron together with an employee in the early hours of the morning on Friday.

The police are looking for six men who attacked the 74-year-old man, his 78-year-old wife and the 48-year-old employee, who live in their house, around 03:15 on Friday.

Capt. Loraine Earle, Free State police spokesperson, says the victims were tied up while the attackers ransacked the house looking for money and firearms.

“The suspects fled with household appliances, two handguns, a shotgun and the farmer’s Ford Ranger bakkie. The bakkie was left abandoned in a field, but the firearms are still missing,” says Earle.

None of the victims were seriously injured.

“The police are still on the scene and are following up on all possible leads,” says Earle.
