A couple from Hospitalpark in Bloemfontein were found dead in their home by their 17-year-old daughter on Wednesday morning.

Lt. Col. Thabo Covane, police spokesperson, says the Parkweg police were called to the house in Hagersingel.

“On arrival at the scene, the police were led to the living room where the lifeless bodies of a couple, a 47-year-old man and his 38-year-old wife, were lying in a pool of blood.”

Both deceased work at the Traffic Department of the Mangaung Metro.

Covane says the couple’s daughter came across their bodies around 06:00 after she entered the main house. The girl shares a cottage behind the main house with her 21-year-old brother. She went to wake him up in a hurry after she came across the bodies and they called the police.

The young girl is a learner at a Bloemfontein high school.

A team of police officers, including experts from the police’s local crime records centre, were called to the house. The preliminary investigation shows that the woman had several gunshot wounds to her body and head.

“The man had a single gunshot wound to the head,” says Covane.

A case of murder has been filed and an inquest is being conducted.
