Criminals are now targeting coffee machines

Fidelity ADT has issued a warning to all business owners to remain extremely vigilant – especially those in the restaurant and mobile service industries.

Crime syndicates are increasingly targeting expensive assets such as expensive catering equipment, coffee machines, factory mixers and generators.

“We are seeing a new trend where criminals are not only targeting traditional establishments, but also mobile restaurants,” says Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing and communications for Fidelity ADT. “It is imperative that business owners take proactive measures to protect their assets.”

Business owners must also remain vigilant, store their expensive assets out of sight and make sure they are kept safe. They should make sure their CCTV cameras are working and stay alert for any suspicious activity. Mobile companies should install tracking devices for expensive items.

“We recommend that at least two members of staff carry panic buttons with them at all times. Visitors should also be especially vigilant. The suspects usually rob the assets and money from the cash register, but this can also be a threat to customers. We understand that these are difficult times, but the safety of your customers and assets should never be left behind.”

Business owners are advised to talk to their security service providers about a full risk analysis to make sure they are fully protected against this type of crime. “Let’s work together to keep our businesses and communities safe.”
