Daniil has Carlos pack his bags

What wanted! Daniil Medvedev settled with Carlos Alcaraz to book his place in the final of the US Open where Novak Djokovic awaits him.

The Russian player – who enjoys a stormy relationship with the spectators in New York – was at his best to eliminate the defending champion 7-6, 6-1, 3-6 and 6-3.

Medvedev fired nine box shots, while also earning significantly more points on his first serve than the Spanish tennis sensation.

Although he finished playing with Djokovic in the final of the American Grand Slam in 2021, he knows that it is not an easy task to tame the 36-year-old Serbian.

“It is a challenge to compete against a player who has 23 Grand Slams to his name, while you yourself have only won one. The last time I beat him here, I actually played beyond my ability and now I will have to pull a similar rabbit out of the hat,” said Medvedev.

However, his win against Alcaraz showed that he can play better in important matches.

“I said beforehand that I would have to come up with an 11/10 show and luckily I was able to show off a 12/10 show. This is the only way one can stop a player of Carlos’ caliber.”

Djokovic qualified for his tenth final in New York with a top performance against Ben Shelton. The three-time champion won the two players’ semi-final encounter 6-3, 6-2 and 7-6.
