David Rees still in intensive care

David Rees is still being treated in the intensive care unit of the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after he had a heart bypass last Monday.

Rees (55), known for his role as Chris Welman in the SABC 2 soap, 7th Avenueurgently had to undergo this operation after he had a heart attack last Sunday.

According to Corlia Strauss, Rees’s publicity manager, she has not yet been able to visit him herself, but his family keeps her informed of his condition on a daily basis.

“He is still in the intensive care unit and did not have a good night. The doctors are worried about his breathing, but he is in good hands,” says Strauss.

“However, the constant influx of warm and positive messages is very encouraging.”

The actor, who gained fame at the time as the naughty boy Nick Naudé in the soap opera, Egoli – Place of golddoes not belong to a medical fund.

The hospital met the family with a bill, but it is a massive amount that unfortunately is just not achievable without help, says Strauss.

“Rees’ sister, Monique Buttle, has meanwhile established a Back a Buddy fund for David. A goal of R500 000 has been set on this page.”
