Eight-year-old caught with drugs

An eight-year-old child was caught with drugs on Tuesday after a teacher saw him at school with them.

Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), says Rusa was called to a primary school in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, after rumors that there were drugs at the school.

According to Balram, a teacher saw how a gr. 3-learner smells a bag of marijuana and immediately calls for help.

“When Rusa officers questioned the child, he said that he had received the bag of marijuana from his uncle,” he says.

“The marijuana is apparently also mixed with other gr. 3 learners before Rusa officers confiscated it.”

RNews has sent an inquiry to the police about the incident, but is still waiting for a response. It is unknown whether any persons will be criminally prosecuted.
