Eswatini’s (Swaziland) police commissioner died on Saturday at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.
“The government notes with shock the sudden death of the national police commissioner, William ‘Tsitsibala’ Dlamini, in the Republic of South Africa this morning,” Mgwagwa Gamedze, acting prime minister of Eswatini, said in a statement.
“On behalf of his majesty’s government, we express our deepest condolences to their majesties, the country, the Royal Eswatini Police Service, his family, friends and relatives.”
RNews learns that Dalmini experienced a serious complication when he landed at OR Tambo from an overseas flight.
According to Swaziland News Dlamini returned from Angola after attending an Interpol meeting. He collapsed around 04:00 while waiting for a flight back to Eswatini.
Emergency services searched for an hour in vain to revive him.
“The kingdom of Eswatini has lost a brave, humble and loyal servant of their majesties and the country,” added Gamedze. “We request the country to keep the police service and the Dlamini family in their prayers at this sad time.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
