Farm patrol thwarts theft of thousands of rand worth of livestock

Farmers from the Heilbron area stopped a suspected cattle thief in his tracks and prevented the theft of thousands of rand worth of sheep.

The farmers were busy with a farm guard patrol in the early hours of the morning on Friday when they came across three men who were chasing a herd of sheep, says Sgt. Josephine Rani, Free State police spokesperson.

“The three men started running when they saw the patrol members, but they were still able to arrest one of the suspects. The police were called and sheep worth R128 000 were seized,” says Rani.

The 27-year-old suspect will appear in the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court on charges of livestock theft. His alleged accomplices are still at large.
