Farrell’s French talk surprises teammates

According to Jamie George, the rumors that Owen Farrell might be playing for Racing 92 in France caught him completely off guard.

Midi Olympique reported on Friday that the 32-year-old flyhalf is apparently considering signing a two-year contract with the Parisian club. However, nothing further has been confirmed or denied.

According to George – who plays for England and Saracens with Farrell – there is uncertainty among his teammates.

“We don’t know if he is driving or staying. The rumors only recently started doing the rounds and it was a surprise for everyone,” said the hacker in an interview with the BBC.

“Owen is someone who likes his privacy, but the two of us are good friends and we will probably talk about this at some point. In the end, however, it remains his decision and I know that he will do the right thing for himself and for his family.”

Farrell will also miss England’s upcoming Six Nations campaign after deciding to take a break from international rugby to prioritize his own and his family’s mental health.

In his absence, George is one of the favorite choices to fill his captaincy shoes. The 33-year-old front row man has already represented England in 85 tests and he has also toured with the British and Irish Lions.

“I have never before represented my country on the rugby field, but I am proud that my name is mentioned in these conversations.”

“It is certainly easier said than done, but I will try my best to ensure that the possible captaincy does not have an influence on my way of doing things.”
