Four die in massacre at tavern


Four people died in a shooting that took place on Sunday evening at a tavern in Siyabuswa near Mbombela. At least three other people were wounded in the attack on the tavern along the R573 road at Kgobokwane.

The investigation is still at an early stage and no motive is known at this stage.

According to the police, a group of armed attackers stormed into the tavern on Sunday evening and opened fire randomly. The suspects reportedly used high-caliber firearms.

Three of the victims died at the scene, and the fourth person later died in a hospital.

“At this stage, the police are investigating four cases of murder and several complaints of attempted murder,” said col. Police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said.

“No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident. However, a team of experts is under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Daphney Manamela, Mpumalanga’s provincial police commissioner, assigned to investigate the horrific incident.”
