Four people were killed on Sunday evening during a mass shooting incident in Kwadwesi in Gqeberha. A fifth person was wounded after being shot in the arm and chest.
The police have now made an urgent appeal to the local community to help arrest the suspects.
According to col. Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu said the injured man (in his 40s) was attacked by the attackers after his friend dropped him off at his home in Sikhundla Street at around 21:15. The attackers apparently stopped the man in his yard and shot him in his house.
He was wounded in the arm and chest and taken to a hospital.
The bodies of the four deceased were found shortly afterwards in a corrugated iron house in the yard of another house in the same street. The victims, three men and one woman, were between 19 and 24 years old.
Their names have not yet been released by the police.
The Falcons in Gqeberha are now investigating four cases of murder and one case of attempted murder.
“The suspects are the same in both cases. The motive (for the murders) is yet to be ascertained,” says Naidu.
Lt. Gen. Nomthetheleli Mene, provincial police commissioner, says acts like this will not be tolerated. “The help of the community is extremely important to help the police figure out what led to this tragedy.”
