Frank on his pieces in ‘Reunion’

With Frank Opperman on stage, you can just sit back and relax – you’re in good hands.

Reunion, written by Dana Snyman, was shown at the Woordfees in Stellenbosch. In this piece, the 1980 matric group from HoĆ«rskool Totius holds a reunion. It’s 43 years later, because of the pandemic.

With just a cool box, school jacket, a few catchphrases and a different tone of voice, Opperman entertains as almost 15 different characters, including as the narrator Adam Boshoff. It’s a laugh with a tear – because a long time ago the matric group experienced a tragedy together which they are now really confronting for the first time.

“You can live forward, but only understand retroactively,” explains the narrator.

Opperman proves once again that he is unbeatable in one-man plays.
