Free State engineer kidnapped, killed


An engineer from the Beatrix gold mine on Theunissen in the Free State was found dead on Sunday after he was kidnapped from his home earlier in the weekend.

Mojakisane Lesoetsa was 30 years old.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng, spokesman for the Free State police, says a group of suspects entered Lesoetsa’s house in Welkom on Saturday and grabbed him before fleeing with Lesoetsa in his Volkswagen Polo.

The burned out wreckage of this vehicle was found on Saturday in an open field next to the St. Found Helena Hospital on Welkom. Lesoetsa’s body was found a day later in Virginia. He had multiple injuries.

The police have since been on the trail of possible suspects after the young engineer’s murder.

According to Thakeng, several personal items and household appliances are missing from Lesoetsa’s house at this stage.
