George tragedy: Another body pulled from the rubble


A 17th person’s body was pulled from the rubble at the site where a building collapsed in Victoria Street in George.

The Garden Route District Municipality says operations continue with renewed zeal after Gabriel Gumbe was found alive yesterday.

RNews reported earlier that Gumbe remarkably only sustained minor injuries. He was without food or water for 118 hours.

Rescue personnel had already been on the scene for 141 hours by 12:00 on Sunday.

A total of 81 persons were on site when the building collapsed on 6 May. The death toll stands at 17. Fourteen people are still in hospital. A total of 35 people are still missing.
