After a couple of second places (in 2021 and 2022), the 24-year-old Marc Pritzen raced away with the laurels in the 947 Ride Joburg bike race today.

The elite cyclist completed the 97 km in a time of 2:09:00 to pocket the winner’s check of R200 000.

Luke Moir was second over the finish line, followed by Reinardt Janse van Rensburg.

Pritzen, a Windhoek native, flashed across the finish line of the Cape Town cycling tour first last year, while he could also boast of the national road cycling title

In the women’s division, Carla Oberholzer is the winner, followed by Madelaine le Roux and Joanna van de Winkel.

The 36-year-old Oberholzer represented South Africa at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, while she has been on the podium at several top local races.

Her cycling credentials include first place performances at the Amashova Cycle Challenge (2017) and the African Road Cycling Championship (2021).
