Good Samaritans quickly responded to help a businesswoman, a tailor from Odendaalsrus in the Free State.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, spokesperson for the police, says the woman was attacked at her shop on Tuesday morning around 08:00 and robbed of cash, two mobile phones and her car keys.
“The woman shouted for help and attracted the attention of the occupants of a Mercedes-Benz. Two suspects drove away in a white Opel Corsa bakkie with a Limpopo license plate.”
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz soon chased after the armed robbers in the van.
“The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz contacted the police and traffic police about the location of the stolen bakkie. The bakkie was found abandoned along Jabulani, Welkom within an hour after the incident was reported.”
The unknown amount of cash, car keys and two cell phones are missing.
A case of business robbery and the theft of a motor vehicle was filed for further investigation.
Brig. Envor Solomon, acting district commander of Lejweleputswa, praised the occupants of the Mercedes-Benz who risked their lives to chase down the armed suspects. “Together we can do more to eradicate crime,” Solomon added.
Anyone with further information about the incident is requested to contact the Odendaalsrus police on 082 864 0004.
