Johan Grobbelaar, hooker of the Blue Bulls rugby union, has extended his contract with the union and will play his rugby in the city of Jakaranda until June 2027.

The 28-year-old played in 103 games as a senior player and boasts 123 club games to his name after making his debut in the under-19 division in 2016.

The Currie Cup winner says he is looking forward to the next few seasons.

“I look forward to the next three years, because the extension was an easy decision for me when you look at the talent we have in the team and the exceptional coaches and management; it’s a really great team to be involved with.”

Grobbelaar has been with the union for nine years and has had some memorable highlights since 2016.

He says one of his best memories was when he played with the Bulls as hosts for the Stormers in a United Rugby Championship match.

“It was nine years of tours, winning trophies, a cup here and there, but the biggest highlight for me was earlier this year when the stadium was packed.”

Grobbelaar says the Bulls have unfinished business and he hopes to win some more silverware for the union.

“The next few seasons are going to be big. I look forward to the next chapter of my career. We have an incredible group of players.”
