They have already appeared in court several times for their applications for bail.

“During the court proceedings, the supervising officer indicated that the accused were not transparent in terms of evidence to support the court in making an informed decision regarding their bail.”

Accused 1, 4 and 5’s applications for bail were rejected as it would not be in the interest of justice as they failed to submit extraordinary circumstances evidence for their applications for bail, says Mogale. Accused 2 and 3 were released on bail of R15 000 each on the condition that they may not leave the province without permission.

The case was adjourned until 30 April 2024.
