Head and Sharma turn heads

It doesn’t look like any winning target is beyond the reach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad; especially not when Travis Head and Abishek Sharma provide the perfect lead-up to the team’s run chase.

These two hot-claw batsmen colored the sky above the Rajiv Ghandi Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening with a kaleidoscope of boundary hits.

Head and Sharma hit the required 166 runs for a Sunrisers victory in just 58 balls. Their partnership of 167/0 in 9.4 overs is the most runs ever scored in the first ten overs of a T20 match.

Their six-hitting skills even impressed Sachin Tendulkar.

“If the Sunrisers had batted first, they would have scored 300 runs,” the Indian batting legend shared on X.

Head ended up smashing 89 runs off just 30 balls, while Sharma hit 75 off 28 deliveries.

Some of their boundary hits were quite simply remarkable: Head, among other things, hit a six over the bowler’s head on the back foot.

“I don’t really know what to say,” KL Rahul said after the match. The mute Super Giants captain was undoubtedly suffering from bomb shock.

“It was incredible. I cannot describe how pure they hit the ball; every dear delivery seemed to hit the middle of their bats. Even if we had scored 250 runs, it would not have been enough.”

According to Pat Cummins, not much time is spent on game plans when Head and Sharma bat.

“They just have to play and not concern themselves too much with other things. Their performances don’t surprise me at all anymore,” said the Sunrisers captain.
