How old are Bok heroes in 2027?

Last Saturday, Siya Kolisi held up the Webb Ellis trophy at the Stade de France. This was South Africa’s fourth World Cup triumph, while this team was also able to build on its success from 2019.

No wonder Matt Dawson thinks that Kolisi and co are the best World Cup squad yet – especially after their one-point wins against France, England and New Zealand in the tournament’s knockout rounds.

“It’s not because they won two tournaments in a row; for me it’s much more about the way they played. The Springboks first had to find their way out of a difficult group with Scotland and Ireland in it, after which they had to beat France in the quarter-final, England in the semi-final and New Zealand in the final.”

“This is a remarkable achievement,” the former England player wrote in a BBC column.

Attention now shifts to the next World Cup tournament, which will be held in Australia from 1 October to 13 November 2027.

Age-wise, the Springboks were one of the oldest teams in France this year, and most of their stars will be in their 30s when the next rugby spectacle begins.

Siya Kolisi will then already be 36 years old, while Eben Etzebeth will have to blow out 36 birthday cherries in Australia if he is selected for the team.

At the back, Handré Pollard (33), Manie Libbok (30) and Damian Willemse (29) can still provide the necessary kick, while a 25-year-old Canan Moodie can be a very important link in the Bok group.
