Huge growth in online vehicle renewals

The Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) online vehicle license renewal portal is rapidly gaining public trust with nearly 1.5 million vehicle owners now registered on it.

The online system was launched in February 2022 as a service delivery improvement initiative to save motorists time and improve efficiency in licensing.

Simon Zwane, spokesman for the RTMC, says a total of 1,418,000 vehicle owners have since registered and transacted on the portal.

“The portal is extremely convenient because it enables people to renew their vehicle licenses from the comfort of their home or office – or wherever they happen to be.

“The vehicle license is then delivered by courier to any address in the country within three to five working days,” says Zwane.

To enjoy the benefit of the service, vehicle owners can log in and register using their smartphone, laptop or computer.

  1. Visit natis.gov.za
  2. Click on “register”
  3. Enter your personal details (ID number, initials and surname, registration number, etc.)
  4. Click “next” and enter your contact details
  5. Submit and complete registration

After registration, you will receive an e-mail and SMS when the license needs to be renewed. It will contain a renewal form that you can also fill out online.

Residents of Gauteng, Gqebera and Kariega can also use the portal to make appointments for learner or driving license tests, the renewal of driving license cards and professional driving license permits.

Those over 60 do not need to make a reservation and may visit any test center without an appointment.
