‘Hungry Eyes’ singer dies

Eric Carmen, who was known for the Dirty Dancinghit “Hungry Eyes”, died at the age of 74.

Carmen’s wife, Amy, announced the news of his passing on his official website.

“It is with great sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen. Our lovely, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know that his music has touched so many people for decades and that this will be his lasting legacy.”

Carmen was the lead singer of the Raspberries and had several hits in the 1970s and 1980s. Among other things, he was responsible for “All by Myself” and “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again”. Celine Dion recorded “All By Myself” in 1996, while Olivia Newton-John achieved equal success with Carmen’s “She Did It”.

“Hungry Eyes” also brought Carmen great success in 1987 and “Make Me Lose Control” was a hit the following year.

Carmen is survived by his wife and two children.
