Investigation comes after accident in which constable dies


The provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe, ordered that an “immediate investigation” be carried out after an accident on Sunday, which claimed the life of a member of the police.

The accident between a police vehicle – a Toyota light delivery vehicle – and a Renault sedan took place in the early hours of the morning, when the cars collided head-on.

The latest information indicates that the police vehicle was on the R101 on its way from Mookgophong to Mokopane when the accident happened. The police vehicle ended up upside down on the road.

One of the occupants of the police vehicle is dead and in the meantime as const. MM Makwena identified, attached to the police in Naboomspruit. The driver, a sergeant, was admitted to hospital for treatment. All five occupants of the Renault, as well as a suspect who was transported in the police car, died.

The police in Limpopo say the identity of the other victims will be revealed as soon as their next of kin have been informed of their death.
