It’s rough against Dimitrov these days

Grigor Dimitrov is swinging the scepter against Carlos Alcaraz on the tennis court these days.

After the Bulgarian player walked away with the laurels in Shanghai last year, he has now also triumphed in Miami.

Dimitrov won their quarter-final encounter 6-2 and 6-4 to end the Spaniard’s dream of a “Sunshine double” with some mind-blowing winning shots (24 to be exact).

“When you want to beat Carlos you have to be at your very best. I stepped on the court today with a definite game plan and I knew what to do,” said the 32-year-old player.

Dimitrov returned the young player’s serves with meaning, while he was also a master near the net.

“Sometimes it’s better to keep things as simple as possible – something that is admittedly not easy against a player of his quality. However, I was able to read the game well and I am very happy that I was able to win in two sets.”

He will face Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the semi-final and his Alcaraz triumph was his 19th win of 2024.

In Saturday’s women’s final, Danielle Collins of the USA will face Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

Danielle Collins beats Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-2 (semi-final)
