Klaasen recharges his batteries

There are few things better in sport than a decent rest.

South Africa’s star batsman Heinrich Klaasen experienced this anew in the Indian Premier League.

Klaasen’s Sunrisers Hyderabad last played before Sunday’s clash with the Punjab Kings in Hyderabad on May 8.

The Sunrisers (215/6 in 19.1 overs) won their clash by four wickets and finished second in the league.

In Punjab’s innings of 214/5 in 20 overs, Rilee Rossouw excelled with 49 runs (24 balls, 3×4, 4×6), but he could not get his team over the finish line.

After Sunday night’s late game between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajastan Royals could not take place due to rain, the Sunrisers finished second.

The Sunrisers now face the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first playoff match.

Before Sunday’s match against the Punjab Kings, Klaasen scored 253 runs in his first six matches with a strike rate of 199.21.

In his next seven matches, however, he could only contribute 128 runs at a strike rate of 158.02.

And then followed the well-deserved rest.

Klaasen regained his form on Sunday with his 42 runs (26 balls, 3×4, 2×6) and his batteries were recharged.
