Klaasen’s cannon bat fires yet another winning salvo

Henry

How do you stop a team with a bit of momentum on its side in its tracks? You only let Heinrich Klaasen wreak havoc for 30 balls.

Klaasen’s bat once again provided some dynamite explosions on Thursday night when he hit 74 blistering runs in the last qualifying match for this weekend’s SA20 final.

Together with a spirited Wiaan Mulder, he enabled the Durban’s Super Giants to score 211/6 in his allowed 20 overs against the Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers.

After that, Junior Dala and Dwaine Pretorius took important wickets regularly to bowl out the home side – who had earlier shown that they know how to win games with their backs against the wall – for 142 runs.

The Super Giants will therefore be fighting for the silverware against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Cape Town on Saturday.

Needless to say, Klaasen was named the player of the match.

He scored his runs at a strike rate of 246 while again displaying his explosiveness against spin bowlers – poor Imran Tahir almost walked through.

Then he also took advantage of three good catches to put the Super Kings batsmen on the back foot.

The Protea player has already smashed 447 runs in the tournament at an average of just over 44 and an astonishing strike rate of 208.87.

He also chased the ball over the boundary line 37 times.

“There is currently not a better T20 batsman in the world. Klaasen is boss!” was Kevin Pietersen’s touchstone summary on social media.

Saturday’s final starts at 17:30 and the action is broadcast live on SuperSport.
