Kolisi makes ‘Time100’ list

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has the TIME100 list of the most influential people in 2024.

Kolisi is named in the “Innovators” category.

Other celebrities, and their categories, named in the prestigious list include Max Verstappen (Titans), Dua Lipa (Artists), Taraji P Henson (Icons), Yulia Navalnaya (Leaders) and America Ferrera (Pioneers).

“We stand months off to discuss who is on the TIME100 belong, the people we believe changed the stories that define the past year,” explains the American news magazine about how it is finally decided who makes the list.

The World Cup winning captain was finally chosen for the hope he created in South Africans.

The South African comedian Trevor Noah, who is also an Emmy-winning presenter, describes Kolisi TIME as the “personification of hope” during a time when many South Africans find it difficult to hold on to any hope.

“Through political strife, an energy crisis and the consequences of Covid-19, Siya made rugby something more than just a competition. His multiple victories – the country’s victories – meant so much.

“Through his wisdom and humility, Siya taught us what a powerful captain should be: someone who serves and inspires those he leads. And for him to lead a team in a historically white sport, to be loved and adored by fans of all races, is a tremendous achievement.

“Siya is a non-stop fighter on the field, but he is also a loving father, a loving husband and a good friend. He gave so much to a nation of 62 million people. I hope he enjoys every moment of his success,” writes Noah about his fellow South African.
