The police in Kroonstad in the Free State launched a major investigation after the violent murder of a 66-year-old man in Wilgenhof.

RNews learns that a 78-year-old family member was looking for the man. Unable to contact him, they asked friends to investigate with them. When they arrived, they saw that the burglar bars had been broken open and the door and security gate were open. That’s when the police and emergency services were called.

“The police were called to Wilgenhof on Monday around 16:00 when the body of a man was found with deep wounds to his head,” says Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli, spokesperson for the police.

Officers noticed the burglar alarm had been forced open and sliding door was damaged and left open. The deceased was lying in a pool of blood. Emergency services pronounced the man dead at the scene.

“A large-scale search has been launched for the suspects. The police are investigating a case of murder. No one has been arrested yet.”
