Late night shooting at Ugie claims four

The Eastern Cape police are still looking for the attackers who shot dead four people on Saturday evening in Ugie.

A dark gray Toyota Avanza with four men was driving in the Ntokozweni neighborhood on Saturday around 22:50 when it was pulled over and attackers, apparently armed with guns and handguns, opened fire on the occupants.

All four men in the vehicle, presumably all from Engcobo, died at the scene, Lt. Col. Siphokazi Mawisa, Eastern Cape police spokesperson, said.

Four cases of murder investigated.

However, the motive for the attack is still unknown at this stage, says Mawisa.

The police appealed to the community to help identify some of the victims who could not be identified by their IDs, as well as with information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

Lt. Gen. Nomthetheleli Mene strongly condemned the “senseless attack” and asked people to help the police with the investigation.
