Loeb makes the Dakar dust splash

No team has managed to win two consecutive shifts in the Dakar off-road rally this year.

The fourth stage was clinched by Sebastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin of the Bahrain Raid Xtreme team. They covered the 299 km in a time of 02:36:02, followed by Yazeed Al Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk from Overdrive Racing.

Among the Toyota Gazoo Racing participants, Lucas Moraes and Armand Monleon once again performed best. They finished eleventh in the stage and they are now fourth in the overall standings.

Giniel de Villiers and Dennis Murphy’s frustration levels must have skyrocketed, because just like in the previous stage, a flat tire hampered them again.

“Early in the morning I overtook and overtook the team in front of me. Unfortunately, a while later we hit a rock and struggled with a flat tyre,” said De Villiers.

The experienced South African finished the stage in 18th place, while Guy Botterill and Brett Cummings finished 16th.

“Today actually went very well,” said Botterill. “At one point we were in eighth place, but then two flat tires in a row badly disrupted our effort.”
