Main runway reopens at Cape Town Airport

The Cape Town International Airport’s main runway was able to reopen on Friday morning after it was closed on Thursday afternoon for security reasons.

The main runway was closed after 14:00 on Thursday after a plane developed a technical problem on the runway. The airport was still able to use the secondary runway, but flights were nevertheless delayed or diverted.

The aircraft in question was later removed from the main runway before an inspection of that runway was carried out.

Many flights were also delayed at the Cape Town International Airport last weekend after the airport experienced three short circuits, RNews reported at the time.

The short circuits affected the systems at the departure desk, which meant there was no connection with airlines.

The airport apologized to passengers again on Thursday for the inconvenience.
