Man gets bail after murder of mine manager

Suspects were granted bail of R20 000 after a mine manager was shot dead in Mpumalanga in January.

Xolane Simelane (38) is suspected of having shot dead the manager of a mine in Carolina just before she was to leave for work. It is not known how Simelane is related to the victim, a woman, or whether he worked at the mine.

He is expected to appear again in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on April 29.

According to information released by the police on January 26, the woman was shot just before she was about to go to work. She was in her Toyota bakkie when she was shot.

“The police and paramedics were called to the scene, where they found the victim motionless behind the wheel of her bakkie,” col. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said at the time. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds to her torso. The van was turned on. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Simelane was arrested a few weeks later.
