Marco plays with bat and ball

Marco Jansen admitted during last year’s World Cup in India that batting brings him great joy.

“Of course I also enjoy my bowling a lot, but it requires a bit more work. You can’t always get away with everything and it’s not fun to see the ball sail over the boundary rope when things don’t quite go according to plan,” he said at the time.

Well, on Friday night he excelled with bat and ball in the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s 44-run victory against the Paarl Royals.

The 23-year-old skybroom was sent in early in the Sunrisers’ innings as a bowler and he did not disappoint.

He scored 71 unbeaten runs from just 31 balls to lay the foundation for his team’s 208/4 in 20 overs.

Jansen hit ten boundary shots – including six sixes – and he especially came up with a few big side shots.

He then took the important wickets of Wihan Lubbe and Evan Jones in the Royals innings, while he also conceded just four boundaries in his bowling shift.

The Sunrisers have already booked their place in the play-offs of the SA20 tournament.

  • Summary of the scorecard:
