‘Masterchef SA’ again this year on the TV menu


A fresh season of the cooking program Masterchef South Africa will be dished up again this year.

The media giant Primedia Studios has acquired the rights to produce a brand new season of the series, which is a worldwide favorite among foodies, locally.

The fifth season of Masterchef SA will be broadcast on SABC 3 and the winner will be rewarded with prize money of R1 million.

The Cape production house Homebrew Films will once again handle the production and Pick n Pay is once again the programme’s main sponsor.

According to Jan du Plessis, president of Primedia Studios, it is an honor to invite South African gourmet viewers into one of the country’s hottest kitchens.

Masterchef is a winning recipe all over the world and is also a media sensation locally. The latest South African season will contain all the ingredients that this show has become known for, but the menu will also be refreshed to serve a wider audience with existing fans.”

Masterchef celebrate the passion and creativity of cooking by following a group of amateur chefs on their journey to become culinary champions.

These home cooks’ kitchen techniques are put to the test throughout the season, from creating famous dishes to mastering complicated recipes.

The judging panel, made up of the crème de la crème of the food industry, evaluates the dishes based on taste, presentation and originality. Contestants are systematically eliminated until the winner of the title of Masterchef is announced.

Masterchef is according to Guinness World Records the world’s most successful cooking program in television format. In Australia, there were even eight series produced from the original program, with Masterchef: Dessert Masters which kicked off there last year.

The show is produced in 70 countries and more than 10,000 episodes have already been broadcast. The program was created by Franc Roddam and was broadcast for the first time in 1990.

Masterchef SA ‘s fifth season will appear on the box office from June this year. The judging panel will be announced soon.

South African home cooks will be able to sign up for the program from the end of this month.
