Milestone beckons for Manie in Paris

A fiftieth match beckons for Manie Libbok in Paris on Saturday when the Cape Town team up against Stade Francais in a Champions Cup match.

The 26-year-old flyhalf has already left his mark on the latest version of the tournament; as evidenced by his cucumber-cool penalty attempt against La Rochelle and the solid performance against the Sale Sharks.

Now he has been persuaded to deliver another spotlight show in the “City of Light”; the place where the Springboks held up the Webb Ellis trophy for the fourth time not too long ago.

It will certainly not be warm: According to the weather prophets, the mercury can drop to -2 °C.

“Yes, it is of course a challenge to play in the cold and it is definitely something to get used to. I do think it was -4 °C when we played Clermont last year. We certainly learned valuable lessons then,” said Libbok.

“It’s nice to be back in Paris. I know we are not playing in the same stadium (as during the Boks’ World Cup triumph), but I am looking forward to being back here in action; especially against a good French club team.”

The Stormers don’t just win a rugby match in Europe these days and the Springbok flyhalf has been persuaded to give his best for the team.

Libbok’s attacking skills fit the Capetians’ playing pattern like a glove and together with Leolin Zas and Damian Willemse, the team often makes its opponents grab for boogie brandy.

However, they now have to put up a solid performance in a cold Paris.

“We don’t want to leave anything in the tank. I believe in this group of players and our full attention is on the upcoming game. If we do the little things right on the field, I believe that the result will also be in our favor.”
