The head of a young man whose decapitated body was found in the Free State more than a month ago was finally found in the Namahadi River not far from Phuthaditjhaba this weekend.
Two suspects were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder and went to show the head in the river to the authorities.
Ao. Mmako Mophiring, police spokesperson, says a search was already launched on Friday and the head was found in the water on Saturday.
The two suspects, aged between 24 and 28 years old, are expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder.
Mophiring says the young man’s decapitated body was already found last month. The body was “burnt beyond recognition”.
The family of the man has since refused to lay him to rest until the head is found.
The police in Phuthaditjhaba’s public order unit, the police cult investigation unit, the Namahadi police, the Phuthaditjhaba rescue and diving unit and the Maluti-a-Phofung municipality’s fire brigade all worked together to bring the head out of the water.
