An Italian woman who dropped off her 16-year-old daughter along a major highway in Rome after she received poor grades for Latin is now being charged with child abuse, local media reported on Tuesday.

Police officers on patrol came across the girl walking along a busy road and took her to a station.

Newspapers report that the girl got 9 out of 10 marks for her other subjects, but she only passed Latin with 5 out of 10.

She told officers she and her mother had argued. Her mother stopped and told her to get out of the car, reports said La Repubblica.

The 40-year-old mother is accused of child abuse and the case has been referred to a children’s court, according to the reports.

The police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
