Nadal clashed with Zverev early on

One certainly cannot dare to underestimate Rafael Nadal on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, but his French Open campaign begins with a very difficult match.

The 14-time champion’s first opponent in Paris is Alexander Zverev – a player who walked away with the laurels in Rome a few days ago.

Nadal has won seven of the two players’ ten previous meetings; including the 2022 semi-final at Roland-Garros.

The Spaniard then clinched the first set before Zverev had to blow the retreat with an ankle injury.

But since then, injuries have also taken their toll on the 37-year-old tennis star and Nadal is for the first time ever an unranked player in Paris.

Yet he knows how to win matches at Roland-Garros; in fact, he has only lost three of his 115 matches (for an incredible winning percentage of 97%) in the French capital.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic said that Nadal is always a force to be reckoned with.

“When you talk about Roland-Garros, Rafael Nadal is always the big favorite in my eyes. After everything he accomplished in Paris, one cannot help but consider him the favorite player.”

Tennis fans can move in front of the box office from 12:00 on Sunday for the Nadal-Zverev duel. The French Open is broadcast live on SuperSport.
