A farmer is currently being treated in a private hospital in Mbombela (Nelspruit) after he was attacked and shot several times on his farm in this area on Sunday afternoon.

Preliminary information indicates that the farmer may have been shot seven times, including in the chest.

The police could not confirm these details to RNews on Monday as the farmer had already been rushed to the hospital when the police arrived on the scene on Sunday.

Callen Herbst, a response manager at AG Solutions, says an ambulance was already on the scene when he arrived at the farm.

According to Herbst, a group of armed suspects attacked and detained the farmer in his farmhouse around 17:00.

At one stage, the farmer was shot several times before the suspects left him for dead and fled in his bakkie with, among other things, firearms and mobile phones. Information indicates that the wounded farmer walked about 2 km away to call for help from his farm workers, who in turn contacted another farmer.

The farm is located on the so-called airport road and the suspects drove up to a border wire before leaving the farmer’s bakkie behind and presumably fleeing on foot.

The van’s keys and the stolen items are still missing.

Capt. When asked this afternoon, Nkosi Magonseni, spokesperson for the police in Mpumalanga, said that the police are at this stage investigating a case of house robbery as they have not yet been able to come into contact with the victim.
