One fasting after 12-year-old dies in hail of bullets


A 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on charges of murder at Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape after a 12-year-old girl died in a shootout between two gangs on Tuesday.

According to Sgt. Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police spokesperson, the 12-year-old girl was shot dead on Tuesday around 11:20 at a school in Khayalami Street.

“According to reports, the girl was caught in a crossfire between rival gangs and was hit by a stray bullet. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“Detectives. Bradley Schuurman, attached to the gang violence unit, worked tirelessly to arrest the suspect,” says Swartbooi.

The suspect is expected to appear in Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
