Ottniel, Marco destroys Super Giants

The defending champion team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, is back in the SA20 final after finishing with Durban’s Super Giants in one of the play-off games.

The Eastern Cape bowled excellently and they bowled out the Durbanites for 106 runs after scoring 157/8 themselves.

Ottniel Baartman and Marco Jansen in particular were at their attacking best and together they sent eight Super Giants batsmen back to the dressing room.

Then the Sunrisers’ fielding was also on fire and captain Aiden Markram took advantage of an excellent catch to get rid of JJ Smuts.

But in Baartman and Jansen, the team has two dangerous arrows in its attacking quiver – both fast bowlers are among the top three wicket-takers in the tournament.

Baartman in particular deserves a pat on the back after taking the important wickets of Matthew Breetzke, Smuts and Heinrich Klaasen.

However, this is not the end of the Super Giants’ road: They still have a chance to book their place in the final on Thursday.

  • Summary of the scorecard:

Sunrisers Eastern Cape 157/8 in 20 overs: Dawid Malan 63, Aiden Markram 30 and Keshav Maharaj 2/30.

Durban’s Super Giants 106/10 in 19.3 overs: Wiaan Mulder 38, Ottniel Baartman 4/10 and Marco Jansen 4/16.

Outcome: Sunrisers Eastern Cape win by 51 runs.

  • In today’s match, Paarl Royals play the Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers. The Johannesburgers started winning the right matches at the right time and they are definitely an outsider to play in the final.
