Phase 3 load shedding was implemented a short time ago “in preparation” for the coming week.
Eskom announced on Sunday morning that phase 3 load shedding will apply from 09:00 until Monday 05:00 “to top up emergency reserves in preparation for the week ahead”.
The power supplier will also be able to give an outlook for later in the week by this afternoon.
Unit 1 at Koeberg online again

The announcement about load shedding follows shortly after an announcement from Eskom that unit 1 of the Koeberg nuclear power plant was brought online again on Saturday after almost a year.
Eskom announced on Saturday evening that this unit was successfully synchronized with the electricity network.
The nearly year-long repair work was the longest outage in the history of the Koeberg nuclear power plant. The original three steam generators were replaced by three new steam generators during this period while unit 2 generated electricity.
Eskom says unit 2 will continue to generate electricity until its next outage which will include the replacement of its original three steam generators. The outage on unit 2 will begin once unit 1 is stable and all required commissioning tests have been completed.
Last night Eskom described the return of unit 1 as a “major milestone” in its “generation recovery plan and strategic objectives”.
