Phase 6 applies again indefinitely

Eskom switched to phase 6 load shedding with immediate effect on Saturday, shortly after midnight.

The power supplier says that after two generating units were put back into service in the last 24 hours, two other units now had to be taken off line again.

“This, together with the need to fill up storage ponds in preparation for the week ahead, meant that phase 6 was introduced from midnight until further notice.”

Eskom says it is meanwhile trying to bring the generating units back online.

On Wednesday, the power supplier said it had “sufficient emergency reserves” and that there had been a slight improvement in generation capacity – and there had been a switch to alternating phase 1 and 2 load shedding.

Thursday, shortly after Pres. After Cyril Ramaphosa finished his state of the nation speech, it was switched to phase 3 and in the early hours of Friday morning, the power supplier said that phase 4 was being introduced.

It has now been upgraded to stage 6 indefinitely.
